Galleri Rostrum presenterar Esther Teichmann’s platsspecifika utställning, vilket är hennes första separatutställning i Sverige. Kom, upplev och utforska, Awaiting Oblivion, som lånar sin titel från Maurice Blanchot’s 1962 nästan (bortemot)-fiktiva roman. Ensamma i ett hotellrum, där genom fragment och aforismer, en man och en kvinna talar om minne och lust, och kommer till insikten att fantasin kan skapa verklighet.
Moon Diving
She dives into blackness. Hurtling into and through darkness, everything inside her breathes with strength and relief. She swims downwards and away from land, eyes open, seeing nothing, saltwater entering every pore.

She lies motionless, half submerged, eyes closed, returning slowly. Rain pours down, washing the salt away. And still it clings to her, seaweed in hair, Medusa writhing. EVT
I Teichmann’s konstnärskap utforskar hon förhållandet mellan saknaden och åtrån och det imaginära, där hon suddar ut raderna mellan autobiografi och fiktion, för att skapa alternera, orfiska världar. Narrationer av längtande uppstår från fotografiska fragment, tillsammans med storskaliga stillbilder och rörliga bilder, skulptur och måleri.

Seashells with apertures like cameras. The womb as oceanic. Lovers as moons. Holding as whitholding. Day as night.”
Teichmann bor och arbetar i London, hon har en MA och PhD i Fine Art från Royal College of Art, där hon även undervisar. Hon har blivit publicerad och ställt ut internationellt, Fulmine, en bok med essäer, Falling – On Loss, Desire and the Photographic, kommer att publiceras av Stanley/Barker under 2017. Under januari till maj 2017, ställer Teichmann ut på Transformer Station i Cleveland, vilket är hennes första offentliga separatutställning i USA. Under 2014 visades hennes verk på fotogalleriet [format] i Malmö del av KONTORprojects grupputställning What should have remained secret, has come to light.

Gallery Rostrum proudly presents Esther Teichmann’s first solo show in Sweden. Come, experience and explore her art works, containing sight specific pieces created for Rostrum. Awaiting Oblivion borrows the title of Maurice Blanchot’s 1962 almost-fictional novel, in which through fragments and aphorisms a man and a woman alone in a hotel room speak about memory and desire, coming to the realization that imagination can create reality.

Teichmann’s practice explores the relationships between loss and desire and the imaginary, blurring the lines between autobiography and fiction to create alternate, orphic worlds. Narratives of longing emerge from photographic fragments, working across large scale still and moving images, sculpture and painting.

Teichmann lives and works in London, receiving an MA and PhD in Fine Art from the Royal College of Art, where she also teaches. She has been published and shown internationally. A monograph of works, Fulmine, and a book of essays, Falling – On Loss, Desire and the Photographic, will be published by Stanley/Barker in 2017. From January to May 2017, Teichmann will be exhibiting at Transformer Station in Cleveland, her first public solo show in the United States.
