The artist duo Meng / Hald presents new work inspired by Ezra Pound’s modernistic approach to language and his use of the term periplum. Pound uses periplum to describe a journey which is seen from the traveller’s point of view, as a sailor in the midst of a voyage, interpreting the world not as static but as a sequence in motion.
Meng / Hald regards language as something which weaves itself through the reader in the reading and not as something to be understood only intellectually but rather through the body. By combining Pound with the structure of the fugue – a contrapuntal compositional technique, where two or more voices answer each other by imitating one another freely – Meng / Hald creates both a book and an installation which demands a bodily interpretation set in motion, by the readers navigation.
